To make sure your new starter is performing to the standards expected, you will need to follow a formal structured procedure that is aimed at reviewing the employee’s performance, capability and suitability for the role.
This is normally done as part of a probation programme. This should be a jointly agreed and owned plan between you and your new starter, mapping out their goals, monitoring the employee’s progress and giving feedback, support and guidance. This may involve facilitating and providing training and coaching, and to that end you may want to consider agreeing a training plan with your employee during the probationary period.
