The new starter will need to become familiar with procedures and processes used in the business, such as how to book annual leave and use the IT systems.
HR will conduct an introductory session on how to use the HR system for booking leave, monitoring sickness and performance management. IT will ensure the new starter is set up with all required systems and has been shown how to log in to these as well as use the office equipment, such as photocopier/scanner and telephone systems.
New starters will also attend ‘Meet the Teams’ sessions with each of the business leads so they are aware of who is responsible for each business or department and what the function of each is. It will also provide the opportunity to understand what procedures are involved when dealing with certain departments, should they need.
Make sure that any sessions your new starter attends in relation to compliance and practical matters are interspersed with other types of onboarding sessions, such as learning more about the role or doing practical work, so they do not become bored.
