Tips for overcoming “screen fatigue” for remote workers

  • Do not expect to be able to simply move all face-to-face sessions online and stick to the same schedule. Make sure to space out video meetings.
  • Ensure onboarding sessions include interactive elements.
  • Keep the onboarding programme varied; give the new employee things to do that they can focus on alone, outside of video meetings.
  • Make sure there is variety in terms of who the employee is having onboarding sessions with.
  • Make sure virtual onboarding sessions include lots of breaks.
  • Allow the new hire time for socialising with their new team members, for example, a virtual coffee break. Not only will this help break up the more formal learning sessions, but it will also help to create relationships between team members who might have little chance to meet face-to-face.
